" It's been two years since we adopted Meli. Below she is giving her Alzheimer's guy (my stepdad) some Easter love. He always remembers her name and our other dog Zesty. He never remembers me, haha. The dogs and I spend four days a week at my parents caring for my stepdad. She also makes all the teens in my house happy with her crazy playful spirit. Our pack leader Zesty, also a rescue pup, had lots of anxiety issues until Meli.
Zesty is fine since Meli entered our lives.
We can’t imagine life without her! "
" Meli is now a service dog for my stepdad. In this photo Meli and my stepdad were heading out for a walk. But Meli stopped here and began to stare at him. I took this photo innocently thinking how cute this was. She just wouldn't move. Not normal for her.
* Within minutes of this photos, my stepdad suffered a heart attack! * Meli knew before us something was wrong. What precious gifts animals are! What a connection she has with him!
Thanks for saving Meli and letting her bless so many.
Especially a needy human in his last months
on earth most likely. "
" What a gem she is! You saved that dog for our family. My step-dad is now in the last stages and here's Mel - sleeping by him and he's so content with her by his side. She always puts her head or paw so that she makes skin contact. You would be amazed with this dog. We all can't believe what a natural she is with him. Thanks so much for saving her and helping my family. "
" Meli said goodbye to her Poppa yesterday. She stayed in his bed for his last ten days on earth. Only leaving to use the bathroom and eating. She's the most special dog and hospice care workers were amazed at her love for Poppa. She barked or growled at the caregivers when hospice came to bathe him if he groaned or seemed uncomfortable. They let her stay because they know they are buddies and she made him smile. Poppa died at home, in bed with Meli, covered in dog kisses and fur. Beats a sterile facility any day. We thought you should know the ending. We are rescuing barn kittens tomorrow, hoping it distracts Meli from losing her Poppa. This is the dog Sayulitanimals rescued and we were blessed with. Thanks again for rescuing her and look at the gift she gave him and us. A man who most times couldn't walk unless she came in the room. Wouldn't talk unless she was there. Not many smiles unless he was with her.His needs for medications were low because she made him less anxious. Alzheimer's strips away loved ones but Meli brought
his emotions and energy back. . "
Meli gave Poppa the best two years and he died happier because he had her. If we couldn't be in the room, she would be.
This is a love story for sure.
With Love & Gratitude,
Jennifer & family
